      Del McCoury Will Host IBMA Awards on Oct. 2

Del McCoury will host the 19th annual International
Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards on Oct. 2
at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Nominees will
be announced on Aug. 14. The Del McCoury Band has
taken home the IBMA entertainer of the year award
nine times from 1994-2004, and overall they are the
most awarded group in IBMA history. McCoury is cur-
rently re-recording many of his past songs for a new
compilation which is expected to be released later
this year.

    Melissa Lawson Wins Nashville Star Competition

Melissa Lawson, a 32-year-old working mother of five
from Arlington, Texas, was named winner of Nashville
Star during Monday night’s (Aug. 4) sixth season
finale on NBC. She and Gabe Garcia, a Hispanic singer
from the San Antonio area, were the final two con-
testants in the fan-voted talent competition. Through-
out the season, Lawson’s strong vocals on material by
Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Bonnie Raitt and
others made her a fan favorite. As the winner, Lawson
will receive a recording contract with Warner Bros.
Nashville and a performance slot at the Summer Olympic
Games in Beijing. Monday’s episode of Nashville Star
will re-air Friday (Aug. 8) at 4:30 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.
